Certainly agree with that statement.  The underlying reason for the view is that the browser is ubiquitous piece of software and thus requires no installation or training.   What people forget is that is also true for Microsoft Office with over 500 million installations.  This realization drove us to the notion of doing mashups inside Microsoft Office, a much richer environment than the browser. For an illustration of this approach go to

We host data, software objects, code, and scripting/data-analysis platforms (e.g., R, S-plus, CPython, Matlab, and .NET dynamic scripting languages) within Microsoft Office documents. Execution of these dynamic documents results in mashups as Word or PDF documents.</description>
